AfterInspectEverything after the inspection.

Home inspection software that works with no signal

Most inspection apps assume a connection and degrade badly without one. AfterInspect assumes the opposite: your device is the source of truth, and the network is an optimisation.

What "offline" actually means here

It's worth being precise, because the word gets used loosely. In AfterInspect, every capture you make during an inspection is written to local storage on the device before anything is sent anywhere:

  • Photos and video - processed on the device as you shoot: HEIC converted to JPEG, scaled down, thumbnail generated, all without a round trip.
  • Dictated audio - recorded and held locally; transcription runs when a connection is available.
  • Findings - condition ratings, severity, narrative and recommendation, all saved as you go.
  • Unsorted captures - the walk-and-talk photos and notes you haven't filed against an item yet.

Nothing in that list requires the network to succeed. When you come back into coverage, it syncs on its own - no manual export, no "retry upload" queue to babysit.

What works offline, and what needs a connection

For an offline home inspection app, it comes down to a short list. Everything you do while walking the property works with no signal; the steps that need a server catch up afterwards:

  • Photos and video - works offline. Captured and processed on the device.
  • Dictating a finding - works offline. The audio is recorded and held locally.
  • Rating and writing up findings - works offline. Saved as you go.
  • Transcription - needs a connection, and catches up on its own when you are back in range.
  • Generating and sending the report - needs a connection. Do it from the truck, the office or the client's driveway once you have signal.

The failure you're actually worried about

The real fear isn't inconvenience, it's loss - two hours of a crawlspace gone because an app dropped what it couldn't upload. That can't happen here, because the upload was never the thing holding your work. The record on the device is the record. Sync copies it up; it doesn't create it.

It also means closing the app, losing battery, or walking out of range mid-finding costs you nothing beyond what you hadn't yet typed.

Install it like an app

AfterInspect installs to your phone or tablet home screen straight from the browser - no App Store, no separate download, and it updates itself. Once installed it opens full screen and launches with no connection at all.

Where dictation fits

Recording a finding by voice works offline; turning that recording into a transcript needs a connection, so transcription catches up when you're back in range. The raw audio and transcript are both kept - an AI-structured draft is offered on top, but you review it before it goes anywhere near the report, and nothing is written into your findings without you seeing it first.
